My interpretation of the Slavic folktale 'Koschei the Deathless'. The tale involves an evil wizard named Koschei who has made himself immortal by hiding his soul in a needle.
The needle is then hidden in an egg, which is hidden in a duck, which is hidden in a hare, which is hidden in a chest, which is buried under an oak tree on an island in the middle of the ocean, and the only way to kill Koschei is to break the needle against his forehead.
In other versions of the story Koschei is a snake who hid his soul in a pebble. For my piece I sort of combined the two versions together, whilst changing some minor things.
This was a watercolour, with pen over the top.
